Gemma bubbles over with energy and enthusiasm. She’s an extrovert who is friendly and loves talking to people. Animated and expressive, she talks in a loud and dramatic way and loves being in the spotlight. She’s perky and touchy-feely, loving to give people hugs. Because of her small size and cheerful and affectionate nature, people often think she’s innocent and not a threat at all.

But Gemma is not someone to be underestimated. As a Quidditch captain, she can be tough and strict, able to command her team’s attention and whip them into shape. She doesn’t take any nonsense from her team or anyone else, and she can be blunt or even harsh. Although she teases them a lot, she loves her team and her friends and is fiercely loyal to them.

Gemma is perceptive and always notices when a conflict is happening. This can cause her to be nosy, because she sometimes butts in and injects her opinion into conversations that she isn’t a part of. She’s caring and loves to help out her friends, but she can be a meddler and doesn’t always realize what her friends really want from her.

Gemma tends to be confident and optimistic. She doesn’t worry much about what others think and loves to stand out. She usually expects that she’ll succeed in her goals and everything will be fine. This carefree nature can lead her to be reckless, though she’s usually not very rebellious, knowing she’s expected to be a role model as a Quidditch captain. However, because of her high expectations, she has trouble dealing with rejection or losing and can be sulky and hard on herself after a failure, although she usually keeps this to herself to preserve her perky image. Though she can be a slacker with work she doesn’t find interesting, she’s hardworking and dedicated to achieving her goals in the areas she cares about.


 

LANGUAGES: Gemma is fluent in English and Mandarin, and she speaks some French from school.
HOBBIES: Quidditch, hockey, sports in general, acting, singing, video games, planning events
SKILLS:
Quidditch: Gemma’s position is Keeper, and she is quick and nimble, allowing her to skillfully stop Quaffles.
Leadership: As mentioned, Gemma is good at getting people, such as the Wildgulch Quidditch team, to listen to her and obey her.
Acting: Gemma puts a lot of passion into her performances and is animated and hammy.
Hockey: A typical Canadian, Gemma used to play on a hockey team. She played forward and was quite aggressive.
Video games: Having a Muggleborn father, Gemma is very familiar with Muggle video games. She will kick your butt at Mario Kart.
 

FAMILY:
BACKGROUND:
Gemma grew up in a large house near downtown Toronto. She was given lots of attention from her family and was a bit spoiled. She loved socializing with the people in her neighbourhood, magical and Muggle alike. Several times, she came close to breaking the Statute of Secrecy. Her early childhood was busy and happy. There were always new people to see and new activities to try.

One thing that bothered Gemma was that her mom was frequently absent because of Auror duty. Gemma knew her mom’s job was important and admired her greatly, but she also missed her a lot and wished she could spend more time with her. One day when Gemma was nine, Wen was injured while on a mission, and had to take time off to recover. Gemma liked having her mom around more often, but Wen’s break from her job also decreased the family’s finances. Wen recovered and was able to return to work, and life went on as usual, but this experience gave Gemma more understanding of how dangerous her mom’s job could be.

When Eric left home to pursue professional Quidditch, Gemma missed him deeply. She decided she also wanted to be a professional Quidditch player, though her parents wanted her to choose a more stable job. She applied for an exclusive Toronto wizarding school that had an excellent Quidditch program and had produced some of the most well-known Canadian Quidditch players. However, she was declined, likely because of her mediocre grades. Gemma was devastated and moped around for a couple weeks, questioning her abilities for the first time. But she bounced back and worked even harder at Quidditch and school, determined to be successful despite the rejection.

By the time high school rolled around, Gemma was itching to try something new. So, when she heard about Peckenpaugh, she told her parents she wanted to attend. At first, her parents were reluctant to let her go to a school in another country, but they eventually decided this would be a good way for her to learn new things and expand her horizons. She quickly came to enjoy the people and activities at the school, especially Quidditch.

FAMILIAR: Craquelin, a parrot that can swear in French.
CAREER GOALS: Gemma wants to be a professional Quidditch player, but if that doesn’t work out, she wants to be a CEO, or some other job where she would get to boss people around.
PART-TIME JOB: None

CLASSES:
Charms: Gemma frequently makes mistakes with her charms, but she tries hard and participates frequently, and thus does well.
Potions: Gemma likes making potions and enjoys when explosions occur, but she finds the essays and tests boring and difficult.
Artificing: Gemma isn’t particularly good at making tools, but she works hard and enjoys the class. She tends to suck up to Dr. Ranui, as he is the head of her house.
Defense Against the Dark Arts: Gemma’s mother persuaded her to take this class, but Gemma finds it dry and not very interesting overall.
Outdoor Magic: Gemma is excellent at the broom racing portion of the class, but she finds the wilderness survival part to be exhausting.
Divination: Gemma enjoys this class. She’s not the best at it yet, but she enjoys trying new techniques and discussing her findings in a dramatic way.

EXTRA-CURRICULARS:

SORTING?: Gemma briefly considered Deeplurk, as she is independent and nonconforming. But ultimately, it was Wildgulch that she decided fit her the best. She’s outgoing, creative with her acting, and motivated and impatient to excel at Quidditch and her other pastimes.
